I'm a communications strategist focused on fundraising and engagement with an emphasis on higher education. I have 25 years of experience creating award-winning communications in university, creative agency, and entrepreneurial settings, including 15 years as a senior development communicator at major research universities. I'm a nationally recognized speaker on Advancement communications strategy, and I have co-authored peer-reviewed research on brand adoption in university settings.
Prior to a career in higher education, I was a communications pioneer and founder of two tech startups: HotWired, a pioneering website from Wired magazine, and ShopTok, a suite of community-driven ecommerce applications that attracted $6M in first-round funding. I thrive in a space where good ideas are transformed into commercial and charitable opportunities, and I have a track record of leading creative and technical teams in the development of innovative products and programs.
I am exceptional communicator who has transformed thousands of ideas into compelling narrative for every audience and purpose including raising millions of dollars for academic and private enterprise, elevating the street cred of exceptional scholars and indie thinkers and translating geekspeak for early adopters. My writing has appeared in Wired, Mother Jones, print and digital tech publications, daily newspapers and numerous in-house publications. I hold an M.S. and B.S. from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.
